Hi There,
I am considering opening up a game store within the Stirling area and just want to ask a few questions.
I would be stocking RPG's CCG's board games (euro games, classic games) etc, unlikely to be stocking any GW products.
The store would be a family friendly store for families that wish to playgames together and also would be set up to allow gamers to fell at home also with a gaming area for game nights to trial new games etc.
I just wondered what sort of interest there would be in the surounding Stirling area for a store like this?

Any local store introducing more people to the wargaming and card games hobby would be more than welcome I'm sure.
As for within our club, there has been a recent rise in card games and some of the other products which Fantasy Flight Games have ventured in to so there may be some customers in that field alone.
Best of luck and let us know how you get on.

Well to be honest I think you are pretty much preaching to the converted here. I would definately say there would be an interest, but then I am involved in the hobby to a limited extend so have no idea as to the footfall you would get through the door.
What is for certain though is that, to an extent, if you build it they will come. There are a very limited number of decent gaming stores in Scotland as a whole. The closest ones for Stirling - non-GW - are 2 in Perth, 1 in Kirkcaldy and one in Glasgow. I have travelled to each one of them on occasion to get a product I wanted.
I also know from speaking to the owner at Kirkcaldy that he has regulars - proper regulars - from as far a field as Livingston.
If you had a decent range of product and gaming space and ladders/leagues, I can see no reason why such a store in Stirling couldn't be succesful.

I would love to see a good game shop here in Stirling. Over the years there have been various people that have mooted the idea but no-one has yet got something off the ground.
You mentioned market research - for my tuppence I'll chip in with the stuff that would be in my dream shop: I'd love to have a shop that stocked a good variety of miniatures, personally, in particular from Privateer Press and possibly Battlefront as well as other historicals. My ideal game shop would also stock plenty of boardgames. I'd love to see plenty of Euros as well as a good selection of so-called "Ameritrash" (not keen on that term btw) from companies such as Fantasy Flight. I spend a lot of money on FFG games. In terms of hobby essentials I'd like to see paints from Vallejo/GW or perhaps the P3 range as well as scenery supplies.
If there was space available for boardgames or for table-top gaming then I'm sure that it would be well used.
Any leagues/ladder systems for games such as Warmachine would be great.
Cheers, and good luck.

Thanks for all the feed back so far.
Who well would Warmachine and Hordes go over?
Also one quick question. How much on average would you say you spend on gaming products in an average month?
Working on a business plan at the moment.
Need to raise start up capital, so will be some time before anywhere need a store being opened but I will keep updatin this thread.
Cheers, Gareth

From the folk that I know I would say there are about 10 Warmachine players around here. There may well be more, I'm just thinking of the folk that I know. Callum may be able to clarify that one.
Regarding monthly spend. For me it varies depending on how flush I'm feeling but I guess it ranges from £50 - £100per month on average.

yeh a games store would go down well in stirling area but you would have to be able to compete or match prices from static games ect... which may be hard at times especially when just starting out, in terms of expenditure last month i spent around £400-£500 on MTG and WOW TCG dont forget that the university has a huge gaming population too with student loans to spend lol a while back there was a games shop above Europa music which in my opinion was a bit rubbish but they always seamed to do well......... (untill the dude didnt bother with rent)

static games is in Glasgow its around where A1 comics is.......
erm directions would be get off at queen street station (from train) walk to the bottom of queen street turn left keep walking till u see the clock tower thing headin towards the barowlands...... the shop is down a side street on the right and painted BRIGHT yellow (not the best directions but should get u there just keep looking to the right when u pass a side street)
Static games to the best of my knowledge sell a bit of everything loads of tabletop wargames like warmachine WWII stuff and lots of others also sells loads of role playing games, card games boosters starter sets and a crazy amount of single cards (have been told from a friend that static also holds tournaments and also has an area for people to play card games in the back)
ive only been to this store a few times as ive just got back into playing MTG after a while but when it was in the old market it was a hive of activity and there was always people hanging around looking for a good chat and game of almost anything. (this store brings back the ''good old memory's'') pretty much the main alternative wargames store in the area that i know of.

Or, just leave the 13th Note, turn left, and take the first right onto Parnie Street.

didnt actually mean directions, thanks anyway, i thought it was in glasgow and dont feel it a real major competitior to a store in stirling, more problems would be GW and Europa music who sell TCG.
