I've wanted to have a go at WAB for a while but I didn't want to spend a lot of money when nobody else is playing at the club. I've recently discovered there are loads of cheap plastic figures available in 1/72 and the quality isn't too bad. You can build a 2000 point army for about £20, so I've bought four armies, which I'm currently painting. If anyone is interested, you can see what progress I've made so far on my blog tablewars.blogspot.com and if anyone wants a game in two or three few weeks, just let me know!

Plastics are certainly a great way to get into ancients. If I was starting off now I think that is the way I would go - the quality of the sculpts is pretty good, the ranges seem to be expanding all the time and it is difficult to argue with the economics. I have too much invested in metal to make the change now however.
I am a historicals player myself. I came down to your club once (when you were in your old hall) and gave Paul a game of WAB. I remember enjoying the game but there was not a huge amount of interest although I think one or two of your club members have bought a few historical figures.
I am more than happy to come over for a game one night if you are interested. I can bring 2 armies or if you have 2 plastic armies I could use one of yours. Lead v Plastic might be OK - the scales are a little different but most of my stuff is 25mm rather than 28mm

David,
I'd love a game at the club. How about in two or three weeks on the 9th or 16th August?
I can bring along my 25mm Sassanids if you have a suitable opponent. They're based up for WRG 6th edition and haven't seen the light of day for 20 years but they should still be servicable!

Sassanids are in the Beyond the Golden Gate Book I think which I have but have never used. The vast majority of my stuff is also based for WRG 6th (I still play) and I do have a Byzantine army that I could almost certainly use
The 9th would probably be good but I will have to get back to you next week

I am pretty sure that the 9th should be OK.
Heraclian Byzantine was my first wargames army so the figures are pretty old and some are in need of a bit of TLC. Should be OK though, I have other suitable figures that can fill in.
Do you fancy 2000 or 2500 ponts?

Let's say 2000 points. I've played a few games of Warhammer Fantasy but never played WAB, so 2500 points might take a bit too long!

2000 points it is. I usually get stuffed by Warhammer Fantasy players as they tend to be more experienced at this type of game

Confirmed that the 9th is fine - looking forward to the game

It will be fun to get the Sassainds into action again! I'll use the Later Sassanid List so we have contemporary armies.

Chris
I saw your comment about the problems of using the list to generate a legal army. I have had similar problems but have managed to get together 2000 points. Not all the figures are 100% accurate in their equipment, some musical instruments are hidden under cloaks and some banners may be furled rather than displayed but I have a usable army.
Excellent blog by the way

David,
I have musicians with hidden instruments too! I have no clibinarii without kontos, so I'll be using Sassanid light cavalry archers to represent light clibinarii.
I'm glad you liked the blog.

I have some javelin armed Sassanid light cavalry (in WRG speak) if you want me to bring them along

I have pretty much got done what I am going to get done, The infantry and the Hun allies have been touched up and their bases re-flocked. I did not have time to do the same for the Byzantine cavalry who will have to do as they are.
Chris - what time do you expect to arrive on Thursday?
