Well I guess I should start by thanking everyone who came along and made the event the success that it was for coming along , especially those who travelled a long way
Arriving at the hall I was pleased to see many players had arrived already, so based on that alone I knew we had enough players to make the event worthwhile should no-one else turn up for whatever reason.
In the end, it turned out that two players couldn't make it but our stand in player was ready and waiting and made it nice 32 player event and after an introduction and briefing for everyone (along with do-nuts Game 1 got under way perfectly on time (which is always nice).
Game One - Assassination
The objective in this round was simple, get as many victory points as possible for killing (or wounding) as many characters or large monsters as possible, and with that in mind, many players were praying to get drawn against the 5 Stegadon list! As the results came in at the scorer's table is was becoming clear that the games were resulting in very clear cuts victories as we had 3 Draws, 3 Major Victories and 10 Massacres with the Bretonnia vs Bretonnia game resulting in Anthony Townson coming away with the most victory points after securing every table quarter, every banner and killing all 5 characters.
As Game One was coming to a close we got the pizza buffet lunch all ready and everyone seemed to tuck in heartily as by the time I had in putted all the results, it was only the Cheese and Tomato and Ham and Mushroom left (note to self for next year - take up the offer from all the players who offered to get me a slice of pizza to get me one!
After lunch, players had the chance to vote for their favourite armies and it is was a close call as the winner won by 2 votes but it was Adam Turner who claimed the prize with his Vampire Counts. Neil McKay's Dark Elves and Mike Marshall's Daemons of Chaos were very close behind.

Neil's Dark Elves
Mike's Daemons of Chaos
Game Two - Sorcerer's Stone
400 Victory Points was on offer for the player to control the stone at the end of the game, the only problem being is cast a random spell from the Lore of Heavens at the start of each Magic phase at the nearest unit (so it could have been a 4+ Ward or Comet - take your chance). Despite starting round two about 20 mins early (pizza went fast) these games were taking a lot longer with players naturally being most cautious about committing their units to capture the centre of the field but as the results came in is seemed interesting but there were in fact no Draws during round two and player of this round should probably go to either Adam Turner for losing a Vampire Lord in Turn 1 to a miscast and still managing to scrape a Minor Loss or to Neil McKay who was in such a strong position half during his Turn 3 Movement phase that his opponent conceded. In the end we had 8 Massacres, 5 Major Victories and 3 Minor Victories and with the Victory Points being what they were it set up a wonderful match up for the final round on Table 1 - James McFarlane's High Elves vs Neil McKay's Dark Elves.
Game Three - Pitched Battle
Nothing fancy for the last round, a simple stand up fight to decide the winner and the fight between James's High Elves and Neil's Dark Elves was always going to be a tough one as Neil would always struggle to get his hands on both Dragons although he did shoot the Dragon Mage of the top of his mount in turn one, but James replied nicely with by running right over a unit of Shades with some Dragon Princes and a nice overrun roll saw him slam into the Dark Riders + Sorceress behind them. What I know of the game, it went pretty much like that all game, Neil would lose a unit and then James would also and so in the end game ended in a Draw, with Neil needing one more wound on the Star Dragon to get half points and make it a Minor Win is his favour. However the draw on Table One allowed Owen Bell and his Empire to leapfrog both players on Table One and defend his crown.
As the tournament came to a close for yet another year, the players stepped up to claim their prizes.
Overall Winner - Owen Bell and Empire
It was nice to see Owen defend his title and so will need to come again next year, and so picked up his trophy (thanks to Donald McCallum for making it) and an A4 print of a Paul Dainton Empire Greatsword.
Runner Up - Neil McKay and Dark Elves
We've still to get a Stirling Wargamers club member to win our own tournament and Neil came very close this year, but in the end he claimed his runner up certificate and a copy of the Malus Darkblade omnibus (which he's already got - d'oh)
Best Army - Adam Turner and Vampire Counts
That's also two years in a row for Adam as Best Army and so he got himself the Direct Sales Empire Hero with Gory Sword to paint up as nice as he can. I guess we'll just need to ban the North-West Warriors from coming if we want someone else to win something next year. Photos of his army are further up the page
Wooden Spoon - Thomas Whyte and Vampire Counts
Holding everyone up from the bottom of the leader board and so technically making his the strongest player was Thomas and his Vampires. As a small token for coming last, Thomas won himself a Daemons of Chaos army book, ensuring he'll never be last as a tournament again (though using Vamps I wouldn't have thought be the case anyway).
Again, all that remains is for me to thank everyone for taking part in the event and to say we'll see you all again next year.
The final leader board.
