Add a spot of matt varnish to the wash?

Its much the same sort of stuff. The chrome spray is just too smooth to allow anything thinner than paint to maintain its surface tension. I might try giving it a coat of matt varnish as that breaks down the paint to harden it, though I still worry that it will mean losing some of the lustre, but I can only experiment.

Well one thing is clear what ever you do DON'T spray it with varnish!
It turned the chrome to an awful grey and undid a lot of work, so there is no chance of getting the rest of the FSA fleet done this weekend.
So the moral of the story is to always test these things on other models first.

Nope, medium mix does make a slight difference but washes really don't sit well on the chrome paint. Add PVA glue to the mix. And if you ever need to break the surface tension, add liquid soap.

FSA fleet finally finished! Sadly not what I had envisaged, due to all the issues with the chrome paint, but done is done: So I cant say I recommend using chrome spray paint, how ever if you can get bush no stuff that might be easier. Cheers

Cheers Gus. Being critical I don't rate that highly compared to the other three I have done, I guess there is always a runt of the litter

Looking good.
It's quite impressive the rate at which you are putting out some very well painted models mate.

Cheers Gus. Don't get me wrong those 8 bombers and 16 tokens took about 18 solid hrs over the last week. I get long periods of drought too, so when I am in the mood I take advantage of it It definitely helps me to have goals and carrots waiting at the end... like buying something shiny and new to put on the table, but I must paint it first! It always interests me how long people spend painting, though it often does not equal how well it is painted. Its amazing how quickly pro painters do it, table top in the time it takes to blink, studio paint job in roughly a working day, a competition model in two days. Most individual models I paint, to a similar standard as I have posted on the forum (though Dystopian Wars minis are different), I do in about 7-9hrs, while units of around 10 models take a little longer perhaps 12hrs or so (roughly a week in real terms). While its fun to compare, I am certainly no pro... but if I could rattle off minis like a pro it would be very nice. Cheers

Another days painting done and some more pics for you. First the flags are on the FSA tiny fliers, for identification. Then there are the KoB tiny fliers. I spent most of the day putting 96 decals on the planes wings, and my neck is not letting me forget. Just to give you an idea of scale the tiny flier tokens are roughly an inch square. And an update of the KoB fleet to date: So two down two to go

Continued to be impressed at the speed at which you paint such fine details on small models.

Hello folks, I thought I might share some work in progress, being that there is a little more work in these tokens compared to the others: I finally remembered to put an item in for scale Removing the planes from the base was simple enough using a jewelers saw, though some what time consuming which is why I did not do it for all four nations. So the planes are almost finished but there are still more interesting things to be done to the base, which I should hopefully get finished over the next few days. But you will have to wait and see. Cheers
