Hi Guys a few people discussing getting into Flames of War over the last couple of weeks. Before anyone goes and spends any of their hard earned cash i could run some demo games if anyone was interested.
I've got 1500 points of evenly matched late war German and British. I could bring these along with my 15mm scaled terrain. The games take around 1.5 hours so i could run a couple of games if required.
Anyone interested just reply.

Just placed an order for 2 PZKfw VI's, 'cause lets face it - cant play Germans without Tigers (oh and it means i get a free rulebook ) Hi Squinty, If your building a German force its always tempting to get the "big cats" the problem is though that everyone expects this and have units to combat them. Two Tigers will cost 430 points, nearly 30% of your points in a standard game. A British force can get a platoon of 17pdr's for 190 points and they will pump eight AT 13 shots into your Tigers per turn, even if only half hit that will be four 5+ saves for your Tigers. A US force can get a platoon of 3" guns for 210 points which again can pump out 8 shots per turn. This time more will hit but your save improves to a 4+ A Soviet force can field a platoon of ZIS 2's which will get 12 shots per turn only 4 will hit on average but they only cost 130 points so most soviet players will have 2 platoons of these. Yeah the "big cats" look good on paper but as in the real war the enemy had a plentiful supply of anti tank guns to take them out. Anyway looks like we got a couple of people interested in a game on Thursday so I'll bring my stuff along. I'll bring the Fortress Europe source book along too and you can get a look at all the other goodies and their stats.

Cheers for that Daniels, I really only ordered them because theyre cool Im more planning on running Pz II, III & IV backed up by Hetzers and Stugs (dont even know how viable that is either, but Im more in this for cool tanks than winning)

Well a quick flick through the rulebook and a few of the sourcebooks - seems I have a few options lists-wise using the tanks I want.. Havn't seen anything yet that includes Hetzers (Jagdpanzer 38t), but I could probably get away with 'counts as' Marders?? Still dont know what infantry or composition Im looking at, still drooling over armour. Edit - does Zimmerit do anything for tanks rules-wise? *didnt do much during the war except burst into flames lol * I've seen quite a few tanks modelled with it, but I dont like the look and dont want to slap green stuff all over my shiny tanks

Hi Guys, Was thinking about the game last night and had to agree that the barrage weapons were far too good. The thing is this wasn't the case in the other games I've played. So i checked the rules for artillery and looks like i made a schoolboy error . Basically we were missing out a whole step, quite an important step. After ranging in you still need to roll to hit the teams that are under the template. So taking Gus's 1st shot as an example: - Ranged in on second Attempt
- Template covered 5 Panzer IV's
- They are over 16" inch away so NEEDS 5's TO HIT
- Squinty gets 4+ save on all that are hit
- Gus takes firepower test to destroy those that Sqiunty failed to save
Also the re-rolls that Squinty was getting for having 6 guns in his unit should have been re-rolls to TO HIT TEAMS UNDER THE TEMPLATE. Gus's save would have been as normal. Obviously none of this would have improved Gus's dice rolling but it really tones down the barrage weapons.

Yeah, that makes more sense I mean, it seemed to me that a single Mortar squad killed half a company of my guys - including my artillery.

You were killed by superor German tictacs (told ya God was on my side). That sounds much better rules for artillary though. Thanks again for the game Rab - which from now on I shall be renaming "Super Panzer Fun-time" Just forked out on a new Panzergrenadier Co. (not to the same extent as Donz, but 1500pts anyway) Followed Rabs advice and ordered pretty much what I was using last night to break me in, I can always expand later... <Edit> - Oh and came home to a post office slip through the door, so hopefully that means new rulebook!
