Hey i started work yesterday on a cool new bit of scenery. its going to include a pool of toxic waste. i was looking for some help with ideas of how to paint/model this. im well aware of the fill they pool with watery pva and let dry to get a nice clear watter effect but i want something bright green or orrange. Any ideas how to get a semi transparent green/orange liquid look. what happens if you mix paint with the watery PVA how well does that work. or any tips on how to paint the surface of the dryed PVA to give a cool wet looking toxic effect Oh BTW here is the industrial site so far www.warzoneweb.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/Industrialsite.htm

Try painting the base of the pool then putting on some PVA or Water Effect, the colour should show through

Hi Tam, I've used a ink/pva mix a few times and it works pretty well. I would recommend using inks in the mix rather than paint but either would work. The last time I did this kind of stuff I seem to remember thinking that the inks gave a less opaque finish, which was more suitable for the toxic water effect.
For my Mordheim sewers I poured the pva then blobbed the ink in afterwrds. Using a toothpick I dragged the colours through the mix in a swirling pattern. That gave a less uniform colour to the mix which suited the effect I was after.
I've also used Woodland Scenics water effect and they do a mixture that is really really thick. This is designed to be moulded into shape so that you can create waterfalls or pipe outfalls etc. That stuff takes an ink mix nicely to.
