Well the first review is coming in this months PC Gamer, and this is certainly one game I am looking forward to It got 94% which is a good sign, give me this and Red Alert 3 (both released on the same day! I can only play one at a time! ) and I will be very happy. The minimum specs are just scary, they say minimum graphics card is a 6800GT, recommended is an 8600GTS. Like hell. Lets just hope "Red October" is up to the task Anyone else getting this/gave Far Cry a whirl in the past? Hard but good I thought

Far Cry, when released on PC, was a turning point in graphics engines. This was a game that made you believe you were on a tropical island. However, when the game descended from good guy vs bad guys to good guy vs monsters, it essentially became Doom with nice graphics.
All in all a good game, but having seen trailers for Far Cry2, it doesn't look like anything new that wouldn't get already in any other fps.

apart from it being completely sandbox, something no other FPS has really pulled off, and having the best graphics engine ever to come to any game... Nothing wrong with Doom either great shooter

I never said there was anything wrong with Doom, but the orginal Far Cry's gameplay resorted to it during the game.
As for best graphics engine, the clips I've seen clearly didn't demonstrate it.

check to make sure it is PC clips, for consoles it has been described as looking a bit flat and dull unfortunatly. If Crysis is anything to go by (and I know, completely different, but noth pushing hardware to the limits) then it is going to be a damn fine looking game to say the least.

I have the original Far Cry and at the time thought it was the best graphics I'd ever seen. Jamie has had many long sweary hours on that game concerning his experience with the monsters. For isntance, he sat really high up on a platform and took his hands off the keyboard to have a break, said "there's no way it can reach me here", just as the monsters jumped the entire length of the facility in one go and mauled him.
I also have Far Cry Predator on the 360. I never thought much of it compared to the original but Jamie played it extensively and loved the feral attacks, mostly the punch.

The console ports (Like most) were not ment to be very good, thihs Far Cry looks ace, kind of Oblivion style open end, but a shooter with the best graphics seen on any ome gaming system to date, I just hope "Red October" can handle it, I hope so, just poured £stupid into it

I have Far Cry 2 and must say that it's an awesome game. Really awesome. I've played it for around 4 hours every day since I got it last week and still it's only around 60% complete.
It says "here's half of the 50km sq map, have fun" then gives you the other half a little later on. You're free to do whatever missions you like with whatever guns you like. A nice setup is a rocket launcher, a grenade launcher and an M-79 grenade launcher. Explosions are good. ;D

Finally got my PC up and running 2 days ago so installed Far Cry 2 last night and have played an hour or so maybe, so far seems good, really huge game but seems easy to get lost and not having a mini map is incredably weird in a game like this, but pulling upthe map you have is pretty cool too. One concern is no matter what I do, Guardposts seem to open fire whenever I drive past, I had 4 jeeps chasing me at one points and very few bullets but fortunatly my pro driving through trees slowed them down, and wrecked my stolen jeep Not entirely sure what to do next, as it does seem fairly free roaming. Should provide good entertainment this weekend I have off Edit: So far my weapon setup is - crappy SMG that recoils like a bitch, pistol that reminds me of the glock in CS, an RGP I have not used yet out of fear of jamming and blowing my head off, and a machete... the only reliable wepaon it seems so far! Edit: 4% done, get in!
