New memberships is where I think the club is losing out. So I think it is important to talk about this prior to the AGM, in order to to get the most out of it.
So here are a few questions that I dont know the answer to:
What has been done in the last 12 months (or longer) to encourage new members?
Is there anything planned for this year?
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Lastly we have a GW store in town again. I doubt the shop survives on purely the members of this club. So where are all these people playing?
Here are a few ideas I have regarding the above:
Remove the limit of under 12's: with the stipulation that they must attend with a supervising parent or guardian for the group. I think this is important as I am sure there are a lot of younger kids that play at GW and cant come to the club as they are under 12. Even if it were only for Saturday sessions.
Approach other bodies: schools (Dunblane has an after school gaming club, having spoken to a dad who's kid goes), Stirling uni and other organisations for new members. The schools part is tied to the above suggestion a little. However I still dont know why there are so few students from the uni at the club, I am told they used to so whats changed. I know there is a very active War/RPgaming group at the uni, so why dont we talk to them!
Attend events aimed youth groups etc: outside of model and gaming related events. While I understand it is important to show face at things like Carronade or Games Day, these people are likely already members of other, more convenient, clubs.
Advertise: even if its only in things that are free (i.e. activity sections in local papers, forums and websites etc.). I put an ad in the Alloa Advertiser and the Stirling Shopper communities section last year. Sadly though I am having trouble getting them to alter it, as they keep mixing the original ad and the new one just describing the club. But I will keep pestering them.
Anyway thats just a couple of ideas.
Cheers
