Hello all, Having played a couple of games of 8th ed now it got me wondering what the new standard size game might end up being. The games seemed to trot along at a nice pace with no part of the turn getting too bogged down. Also with more destructive combats, more destructive spells and more destructive template attacks it might be that units are cleared off the table more rapidly than before.
For years we've played 2250 as a standard and I wondered if you thought that 2500 or 3000 might become do-able without becoming a chore.
On a related point, percentage restrictions for some options are as follows:
2250 25% - 562.5 50% - 1125
2500 25% - 625 50% - 1250
3000 25% - 750 50% - 1500
So it's really 3000pts before you'll see many gaffers on dragons cutting about. Any idea what you'd prefer?

Well I'd imagine it'll be 3000 points to be honest. Players have spent their pennies on Lords on Dragons and they'll want to use them.
I'm back to square one with both my armies anyway, so it'll probably be a while before I can field a playable army.

For me to get a monstrous Lord in my Troll list (Kholek/Galrauch) I'd need to play at least 2500 points, although, I'm leaning towards just doing a 3000 point list anyway.

And while I have bought Lords on Dragons, im leaning towards not shelling out the money to up all my armies by about 1500 pts each...

I was surprised to find that by putting my gaffer in a chariot and fielding my Giant, my WoC army is still playable. I have to trick it out with a few too many marks and magic items but it's still on the table. I think I'll work towards 3000pts and see how it feels on the table.
with 6000pts of models on the table and up to ten pieces of terrain in a standard pitched battle we might also find ourselves moving to 8' tables...

The cynically inclined might point out that that would necessitate buying the Realm of Battle expansion as well as the aforementioned 1500 points of infantry...

If you go to 3000pts it allows more rare and special options to be taken to allow bigger games.
2800pts is easily divided into 700pts for a quarter and 1400pts for a half.

I don't think WFB will go to 3000pts for the very reason Bjorn & Bigdog mentioned. At 3000pts your army is considered a Grand army which allows access to some real filth, 4 Hydras, or 4 Steam tanks, or 4 Hellcannons, or 8 Reapeater Bolt Throwers! (mmmm now theres a idea) not to mention some of the special choice dirt you can get. But at 2999 or less points its only doubles. There is a big thread on this on the Warhammer forum. Anyways i think the 2800 mark is good, reason i can do the math for it easy And on the subject of Dragon Lords you'll still get a Dark Elf one in at 2000pts no problem lol
