Ok having acquired some if the new spiders from gw. I'm gonna try paint them. First one is going to be like a black widow. So it will be shiny and have the main body being black. How can I give the black depth and add details without making it not look black.?

So it will be shiny and ..... black. Answered your own question Flat Black with gloss varnish - let natural light highlight it for you. Works much better and more natural than trying to highlight with paint.

What Squinty said, but before you varnish it, wash it with purple or blue. It just adds a little more depth to the model.

Ok done this. Added purple over a light grey drybrush to great effect. How can I contrast I shiny black carapace with the jointy bits between legs etc? Should I go total contrast with White/ bone including doing this on the horn things??

Well if it's a Black Widow look you want, I'd be tempted to just do the whole model black.
