I was thinking about going, Had a look at the Bloodbowl rules, don't think I'll be bothering. Less Racial Bias in a KKK meeting.... Might as well have called it "The Elf only cup" and been done with it.

Less Racial Bias in a KKK meeting.... No need for that. Just because Elves wear white robes and see themselves as the perfect race...

With me not knowing anything about BB. What changes would you make to the pack. It'll help, looking forward to future events should they come about.
Cheers,
Brian

Well the main thing Brian is the starting gold to build your team. Elves can score very easily in Blood Bowl as doing anything with the ball requires and Agility roll and as you can imagine, all Elves have a good Agility. Simple things such as picking up a ball or dodging away from a player on the opposite team are often done on 2+.
This has always been offset in Blood Bowl by the fact that Elf players are expensive and difficult to replace if they get injured or killed over the course of a league and many starting Elf teams have to make a tough decision on whether or not to have 12 players with less re-rolls or 11 players and perhaps another re-roll.
In stand alone games it's balanced in that you may be able to score more often or seemingly more easier than other teams, but chances are you won't finish the game (or even start the 2nd half) with the 11 players you selected with your 1,000,000 GP's
In a tournament setting however, when your team casualties are forgotten at the end of the match, being able to field an Elven team with 12 players allows for the fact that should one player get hurt during the game, they can replace him easily and retain the ability to score easily (compared to slower, harder hitting teams).
What follows are two example teams, hopefully demonstrating this:
WoodElves 1,000,000 GP Tournament Roster
9 x Lineelf 2 x Wardancers 2 x Re-Roll 30k to spend on Cheerleaders or Ass.Coaches
This a perfectly balanced Wood Elf team and is mostly used at the start of a league. Since Elves do most things with the ball on a 2+ you really don't need to spend gold on a dedicated Thrower since the only difference between him and a Lineelf is the Pass skill (which allows a re-roll on a pass attempt). Also, this team only has 11 players, which isn't really a problem in a tournament since the Wardancers can score nice and easy, you should be able to win the game regardless of casualties (provided they don't all happen in the first few turns - but that would be a problem for any team) which won't count for anything at the start of the next game, you'll still have 11 players.
WoodElves 1,100,000 GP Tournament Roster
7 x Lineelf 2 x Wardancers 3x Catchers 2 x Re-Roll
This is a dirty starting team when you factor in the additional skills that you can add to your players. Giving 2 of the Catchers Block allows for starting team which can enable 4 players to be "Blodgers". These guys are only knocked down on one result on the block dice (unless the player hitting them has Tackle - but that skill is no where near as common a choice as Block or Dodge). This team also has 12 players and when you combine that to the ease at which it could score, it would be very hard to stop.
Overall, there are some very strong teams that can be purchased with 1,100,000 GP and made even stronger with additional skills, but Elven teams get to take it to the extremes and given the experience of the guys who wrote the pack, I wouldn't have thought they would have made that mistake.

Combine what Asurya said with the scoring system -
Most non-elf (more so the 'bashy' teams) will typiccally win games 2-1 or 2-0. With your scoring system this gives a team 8 points (+1 if they have more than 3 casualties) Elfs are more than capable of winning a game 3-0 or more, netting them 10 points, and then they get a bonus of +1 for scoring 3 or more TD's (and if really lucky +1 for casualties as well)
As a player with numerous teams, Theres no doubt in my mind I would be taking Elfs to a scoring system like that.
In our current league my elfs have consistently won (bar 2 games) by 3 TD's meaning I would be gaining an extra 3pts per game over normal teams.
A flat scoring system with +1 for3/4 TD's/Casualties would have been fairer.
But also over only 3 games thats not going to leave much differentiators between the winning teams. (I can see your dilemma why you've chosen this scoring system - but it just favours Elves far too much)
Hope this helps Brian.

Just got an email from Andy at [elg]
"It is with great regret that we are taking the decision to cancel the Gathering of the Clans event for 2011. There are several reasons which individually wouldn't matter, but combined have made the event untenable. It is quite disappointing, but the organisers now wish to focus our efforts into building the event for 2012. In the meantime both DWARF (dwarfclub.com) and [elg] (elgamers.org) will be running our smaller annual tornaments. Thank you for your support and apologies for your disappointment."
Indeed, very disappointing.

Disappointing indeed. Still, maybe by 2012 I'll be in a position to go...

Yep I'm gutted as there was a few friends I was going to met up with as well & in general just have a few games of Warhammer 40k.
But that least there still aim for next year & that the like of ELG will still be holding there own tournament later this year as well which is alway good laught & I enjoy attending.
Was hope to use this one to get some practise for Throne of Skulls July. Like wise with Black Library there as well, again just a few people I knew while work for GW & just due to some new books due out soon.

Just got my money back. Help toward my Battlefleet gothic SW fleet.
Next tournament for me I guess will be ToS July, then ELG Counter Attack, Games Day (though not tournament), ToS Oct & then our own Rapid Fire.
