I noticed someone had the Mordheim rule book last night. Also the rules are freely available on the GW website.
I've never played before, but it's certainly something I wouldn't mind trying. Anyone else play and is it any good? Any recommendations on gang creation for a newbie?
(I'm tempted by a skaven or some kind of chaos warband, but may just go with humans or undead since I wouldn't need to buy the mdoels specially...)

Played a Mordheim campaign a looooong time ago in GW, back when SG were stocked in store. Was good fun, and a good game. But suffers from what (I think) it has in common with necromunda. Winners get stronger and then go on to win even more, while the losers get left way behind. (at least from the little ive played both games - thats what Ive noticed) That was many years ago, and with living rulebooks, I dare say rules have changed - so may be talking out of my proverbial (for a change) I wouldnt say no to a campaign though, give me an excuse to paint some random figs

As squinty said i found some lists to do really well, compared to others not so well. This led to a split and ultimately an end to the campaign.
It has rules for one off games, but the appeal to me was the progression and improvements your could get, game after game.
I will guage interest and see if it possible to get a campaign up and running over the Summer.

But suffers from what (I think) it has in common with necromunda. Winners get stronger and then go on to win even more, while the losers get left way behind. (at least from the little ive played both games - thats what Ive noticed) It's true that neither Mordheim nor Necro seem to have any kind of handicap system (like Blood Bowl inducements) that help underdogs to beat more experienced opponents. Though in Necro it's generally the gang with the lower rating that get to pick the scenario and thus to be ambushers rather than ambushed etc. I'm not sure whether similar is true in Mordheim. There are certainly scenarios where a weaker gang stands a better chance against a more experienced one than others. Also it's worth noting that who wins the game may not be the same as who comes off best after the post-game sequence, once injuries, income, and trade are done. So in my relatively little experience of Necro/Gorkamorka campaigns this hasn't been a problem. One important note though is that this has generally been of gangs playing a fairly similar number of games. What might be more problematic is if some people were playing two games a week and others one every other week - that would soon make the former much more experienced.
