Ok, so it was the second Mantic Open Day on Saturday, and I rattled out some entries for all 3 categories (Single Foot, Single Mounted and Unit) despite just having moved house, and 2 of the 3 kids having chickenpox...
All three entries were done in less than 2 weeks before the day, and involved lots of cursing, and not much sleep.
Single Foot entry - Dwarf Berserker
The tartan trousers were a bitch, and an exercise in freehand. In hindsight, trying it on something less than an inch tall was either inspired or idiotic... Still, I learnt a fair bit about brush control doing that, and doing proper eyes, so I consider it a worthwhile task. I started a number of foot minis before I settled on the Berserker, I didn't hold much hope of a bog standard troop model doing well, but I felt really inspired to do my best with him.
Single Mounted entry - Vampire Lord on Dark Pegasus
I figured this was probably the most daunting mini I could possibly attempt, as, as far as I'm aware, the only painted version ever seen was done by Mike McVey. No pressure... Still, I wanted a challenge, so it was probably the most appropriate one to do.
Unit entry - Revenant Knights
Having gotten the hang of verdigris, I wanted to try and paint a unit that looked slightly more natural than my usual style. And didn't involve Devlan Mud... And I really like doing the gore, so it was a good opportunity to do more.
Overall, I picked up the prizes for Best Foot and Mounted models, and the trophy for Best of Show. Which was unexpected, but very reassuring.
Comments welcome.
