Gelt? Interesting. Ive only fielded him once, and never in 7th ed. Perhaps I'l dust him off once for a club game once the WPS tourney is over.

WPS is totally different Kevin. No special characters at the WPS for a start. And this is probably not a fair reflection of the Empire army either. It's hard to know when special characters are included. Same can be said of the dwarfs, who are such a different army with or without Thorek.
And on the brighter side, a HE army made 4th. That's an old and dated book now, yet right up there among all the new boys as well as the tried and trusted 6th ed power-armies of Brets and Slann. Although, it could have been a Teclis army I suppose, or SoC Seaguard! It's just really hard to judge the performance of various races' armies without knowing what they were. Any idea Kevin?
As for the WPS GT, make sure you have a look at the composition restrictions, scenarios and scenario cards, and you'll see how much the various power armies have been toned down.
For example WE, notoriously tough and successful army. But at WPS there are no pitched battles so no free wood, and only the woods that other players have brought - which will be few and far between. WE may fight most their battles without a wood on the board. No two-the-same-rare slots so no tag-treemen lists (or dual STanks for that matter!). Futhermore skirmishers won't get flank bonus in one of the scenarios. You will need US and standards to capture the 200pt table quarters in scenario 1. Light cav lose their light cav abilities if they hold the treasure in another scenario etc. etc.
THere are quite a few things to improve rank and file infantry and undermine heavy cav, skirmishers etc. Bottom line is that your ogres should be fine, don't change armies because you are worried about the competition.
Besides, everyone is used to Brets nowadays and have plans for each part of your army, whereas lots of people don't know ogres well at all.
INteresting to see Joe Sturge at 7 without his WE, and Alex West at 10 with his Bretonnians. He played with HE for 5 of the 6 years that 6th ed was out, was completely frustrated, and when he changed to Bretonnians he jumped 20-30 places in WPS tournie rankings overnight.

The winner's army. And apparently no. 2 was virtually identical (well, "identical" was how JS described it). Balthasar Gelt Warrior Priest- barded warhorse, heavy armour, shield, Doomfire Ring, Sword of Might Wizard- level 2, two Dispel Scrolls Wizard- level 2, Rod of Power, Ring of Volans 5 Knights- Musician 5 Knights- Musician 10 Swordsmen- Musician 10 Swordsmen, + 5 Swordsmen 5 Outriders- Marksman w/Hochland Rifle, Musician 5 Outriders- Marksman w/Hochland Rifle, Musician Cannon Mortar Steam Tank Only one steam tank, which was the exception. Not much in it apart from the magic!

at a glance those armies seems pretty easy to beat (though I am by no way saying they are, they just look it) I mean there is 50-odd models in them, and the STank to me doesnt seem overly great, but still, 8 levels of magic, and a warrior priest... dang thats alot of magic

I'm sure the first thing all that magic does is blast anything that could possibly be a threat to them or the STank. All lore of metal spells is a nice start.
Here's the HE list. Not entirely bent at all, although a notable lack of infantry! Those two bows are particularly nice to have on the field and will deal with most heavy troops you have to face. Just ask PB! I believe the Reaver bow has, on occasion, shischkabobbed a few Empire knights!
Prince: DA, Elven Steed-IB, Helm of Fortune, Bow of Seafarer, Amulet of PF, Lance, Halberd Commander: DA, ES-IB, Reaver Bow, Enchanted Shield, Pure of Gut Mage: Lv2, Seer, Channeller, Silver Wand, ES Mage: Lv2, Seer, DS, ES
9 Silver Helms (FC, Lion Standard, 2+) 5 SHs (mus, 2+) 5 SHs (mus, 2+) 5 Dragon Princes (Mus, Banner of Sorcery) 2 Chariots 2 Eagles 2 RBTs

Here's another, placed 18th i think:
Karl Franz, with hammer and dragon
3 level 2s
3 x 10 handgunners
2 stanks
That's it.
Oh, just checked the link. Same army!

Gill Medd,, Battle Wizard Dispel Scroll, Ring of Volands 145 Pts
Knightly Order x5 Champion, Standard and Musician, Warbanner 180 Pts
Knightly Order x5 Champion, Standard and Musician, Steel Standard 180 Pts
Knightly Order (Morr) x5 Champion, Standard and Musician, Banner of Arcane Warding 185 Pts
