So lets hear them. Provided everyone keeps calm there is no need to wait until the AGM to discuss how the club can help improve the Saturday sessions.
One of the things that I have learned in the debate over the past week is that no one person wants to see the Saturday sessions closed.
However, the fact remains the black and white evidence of income vs expenditure showed the club was losing money to the failing attendances on those days and this was why they were cancelled.
Some club members have made it clear that they would like these sessions to continue and the committee accepts and acknowledges this but it won't do so to the detriment of the club's bank account.
Therefore, lets find some ideas to increase the number of bodies that come along to the club on Saturday's so we can book the hall in the next coming months.

As I said to you last night the main reason I have attended the Saturday sessions is to open them rather than play games the major reason for this is that I don't have the time to stay all day due to work. However the one Saturday I was able to stay all day I really enjoyed the 6k game of WFB we played so while it's not a specific idea what I would say is that the most enjoyable thing for me was getting to play something a bit different from what I play on a Thursday night or in GW.

I think it is important to have organised events for club members on Saturday, as Paul mentioned else where.
So I think th best way is to have more optional organised events on Saturdays:
Invitational challenges: against other clubs? Not full on tournaments like Storm over Stirling etc. rather grudge matches where we challenge other clubs etc to come and best our gamers! This makes it a matter of honour for our members to show face and lets they play people they would otherwise not meet. The advantage of it being a grudge match is that any game system can be played so you don't have to just play one system all day. Also that not being a tournament people only have to enjoy their games and not worry about what others are doing. But I think so long as these were organised in advance, with one other club coming along each month, it would be great fun. Obviously this requires some logistics and planning.
In Club Tourneys: Choose a system and play off in a one day league, for example a Bloodbowl one day event (being that its the Superbowl!). Once these events are up and running (ie high attendance) there could be prizes?!
Themed Days: Have days where it is encouraged to play outside of the clubs two big games. Where people bring in other games to let people have a shot of, ones that they might not have bought for themselves with out playing it first. Which is a great opportunity to get others involved in games like Bloodbowl, Urban War, Warmachine/Hoards, Wings of War and other great games that are over shadowed by the big two.
There are just three options which I think would be great fun and draw people in on Saturdays to things that there is not time for on Thursdays.
Cheers

The invitational challenge idea was floated at a committee meeting a few years by Donald and they general feel was that although a good idea, the practicallties of it almost made it a non-starter.
That is however, not to say I'm dismissing it; we'll certainly look into again.
As for the other ideas, good stuff. Lets keep them coming.

The invitationals need to planned and our members need to feel that there is something at stake if they dont come along. Also it does not have to be a whole club, even just 4 people coming along from another club means that 4 of ours have to turn up for the honour! I really think that it should be that our members take pride in such events. Whether that means we get a couple of small trophies to give out to the top performers (although held at the club perhaps and there name gets added to a plaque - all be it something like the clubs ladder system).

Would it be possible to have the Saturdays planned in advance among the club members who want a Saturday session. Say there's a dozen members who want a Saturday session they can together plan one that works well for all of them (so overall less regular sessions). Once that's decided upon the hall can be booked for that day. So rather then a mish-mash of members turning up at odd Saturday sessions they get planned in advance (perhaps people can even pay in advance?).
for example, if me and Callum wan't a lengthy Warmachine game sometime we'll then ask on the forums or round the club to see if anyone else wants a chance for a longer game, see if we can get enough members to cover hall cost and then plan a Saturday which we can all make when we can rent the hall.
Now this is just the bare bones of an idea, it depends on how flexible hall rental can be, how organised club members are and also how many members are needed to cover the hall cost (and if that number can be drummed up to attend a specific saturday).

I like all of those ideas but the main thing for them all is that they are planned out far enough in advance that we get the attendence even if it is from outside sources. I'm sure there are a few warmachine players for example from further away who would be up for coming to the club to take part if there was not enough members from just within the club to do a mini-tournament. Also just because it is a warmachine or blood bowl or whatever else tournament there is nothing to stop other people like the kids who usually attend from playing their own games.
As for inter club events its something i've always enjoyed is getting the chance to play people from other local clubs. The only real problem with that is that the game most people at clubs like DWARF play is fantasy and it seems to me that most of our regular fantasy players are unable to attend Saturday sessions mainly due to work (even I can only make it in the morning because I work all Saturday afternoon and night).
I do like the idea of trying to get a certain amount of people to sign up before hand to make sure the hall is covered and I don't think even charging £3 for Saturdays is a bad thing if it is required to cover the hall. As it means the only people having to pay extra to cover Saturdays are also getting the benefits. However I'm not sure how flexible the hall is with us booking Saturdays and how long in advance they need to be booked.

In response to the above.
The reason Saturdays have failed in the past is the lack of organised events. Why go to a once a month full day session when there is nothing more on offer than what is done every week on a Thursday. So every effort must be made to organise events for Saturdays.
I totally agree that other must be able to play what ever they want while these organised events are going on otherwise its just another tournament and thats why I described them as optional organised events. Therefore bringing in people for other areas should be less of a requirement and more of a bonus!
As for other games besides fantasy/40k I am sure there are people in Edinburgh and Glasgow that would come through for the opportunity game against some different opponents. For example Rab has already contacted a group in Perth that is getting in to Warmachine and would love the challenge! They have already invited us up to have some Stirling vs Perth grudge matches.
I agree again with you that I doubt we can book the Saturdays with anything but very long notice as other groups and clubs will want regular use of the hall. Certainly I don't think anyone would argue over £3 for all day gaming on Saturday, but there must be a reason to go in the first place.

We should also look into some fourm of painting comp with the memeber. It help with a few memeber to encourge them that seeing a finish painted model look cool & just a few have said they where not able to make a few event due to painting side. Or they feel the painting is not there strong point, but this will give them that moral as said once seen the model fully painted.
Could also look into a sort of bit swap along with the general gaming on the Sat session. For some of us it good to clean out the bit box in general & allow other memeber to make use of those part we may not find helpful/useful in our own collection. But keep this as pruely swap for bits (eg no money)
As Dave said there try to get some bigger games since we have the time during the Sat session. So it mix it up between the younger & older memebers. Try keep a time limit on turn to allow the game to flow & not slow down. So like Apoclypse for 40k for exsample. Have people plan the big games in advance & try to sign up people who are intrested. Then if people who come later/want to join last min is alway welcome ;D
Possible show off "how to" by this I mean have a memeber who willing to give the time to show how to use green stuff for exsample for memeber who struggle or how to make use of plasticard on your models?? As I know I get ask a fair bit on the plasticard front from the younger memeber. Just Sat you do have that bit more time to do these thing.
As it one thing to talk about this (useing plasticard for exsample), it another thing to actule show people how it done so they pick it up. So the how to offer this, along with conversion, how to do cool base if ask?

It is a great idea... but there maybe a health and safety issue if there are sharp items and glue floating about. The last thing the club needs is a law suit because little Jimmy got a boo-boo. It truely is a sad world when these things get in the way of a good idea.

hay all thought i would put my 2 cents in,
i do like the sound of playing other clubs, the likes of glasgow and edinburgh etc and as its mostly in the central belt transport shouldnt be to much of drama. we could make it work like a football game we host them for a day then one weekend they host us. its always nice to play differnet opponents.
maybe a bit more advertising is needed?? having the gw shop open up in stirling surly has made the gameing numbers larger in and around the area, maybe the staff at the shop could push it a bit. when i was down in reading the gw shop there were telling me all about the club and id been in the shop 5 minutes.
maybe another idea is -doubles tournys similar to conflict.

With the "how to" we could alway look that safer way which can alway be discuss if the idea it taken ahead, with the like of plasticard work for exsample, like useing siccor (sp) instead of a blade if other people wanted to give it a try or clipper.
Yes Graham it would be good, maybe have a random draw with oppent?? It also good for the younger memeber who may not have a lot of stuff or who have just started the hobby & attending the club.

Yeah you get the idea. Hell you could have "Double Team Saturday", "Saturday's Bigger is Better" and so on. Although I don't think we need any more full on tournaments as it stands, as there is one for both 40k and Fantasy which should be plenty. Also "tournament" immediately puts some people off, so having them as friendlies makes it much more accessible to everyone. However thats not to stop some friendly rivalry going on (between clubs and or individuals). Fair enough once some other games grow in popularity and there are enough people who want a tournament for X game then the club can look in to having more. But as it stands I think its fine. But I think its all about having optional organised events and showing people that there is so much more to gaming than what is offered to them currently. I mean look at all the games Paul has and never gets to play, but any time he says he is bringing one along he has to turn people away!

i wouldnt say that 2 tournys a year is plenty. say if you only play 40k thats 3 competative games a year hardly "plenty". hopefully the 40k scene will follow fantasy and have a 2 day competition.
i would love to have a sat session with guys turn up with there aeronautica armys, and get a campaign under way.

Yes I dont doubt that three competitive games will not satisfy someone who loves tournaments and I have not said there should not be more. My point is that if someone likes tournaments you have plenty of other places to satisfy you craving else where at other events throughout the year. However if the club organises more tournaments others lose out on a Saturday session, so I dont feel these should monopolise those days. For example as it stands say there are ten Saturday sessions in a year, already two of those are tournaments, so you see how they could soon take over. Not that it is all bad, but it does leave some people out in the cold. Making them two day events is no issue though as far as I can see
Things like aeronautica campaigs could easily be be organised for Saturdays and still let other play what ever they want to play. As I said in my OP "Themed Days", where you are encouraged to take part in games outside of the big two, but that do not stop people from playing anything else they want to. The key here is really it being optional, where as organised tournaments take over the whole hall in order to be viable. That way everyone gets what they want. And other suggestions has been invitational days and in club "tournaments" (though again optional, allowing others to play what they want).
Cheers
