Who's interested in custom-made SW club dice? I've found a company that will make them. I asked for a price if we purchased 200. Some of you may not know, but some of the larger clubs around have their own dice. In their club colours - if they have them - and instead of a 6 they have a club logo. The Dragon Slayers, for example, have red and white dice with the St George Cross as a six. So when you play guys from this club at a tournie, it's very annoying to see St George crosses coming up all the time. Terra Nova Griffons have a griffon as their six, and numerous other clubs have similar things. We thought for Stirling Wargamers that yellow dice with red spots marking 1-5 and the Lion Rampant for a six. We did talk about the St Andrew's Cross, but the Lion Rampant is something much more associated with Stirling in particular so seems more appropriate. Very cool when you are rolling to hit and several lion rampants come up! ;D Not so cool when it's a break test! I want probably 40-50 myself. If we put in a total order of about 200 they will be 25p per die. These are 16mm dice with rolled corners - basically the same as the larger style dice that Donald and I both use. GW dice are only 10mm. Some people will want 20 or more (only £5 for 20 - not bad!) and some may only want 5 etc. As long as our total order is 200 it will be this price. If we want less it may be a little dearer, more - cheaper. Respond if you want in, and how many. If we get enough I'll collect money and order them. We could probably get them in time for the tournament. Remember, if you want them best order them now as you may never get another chance.

Which company?
My source is dice.co.uk, but they only do runs of 1000, so... do tell! They also only do designs on 14mm+ sizes.
(I believe GW dice are 12mm, Vehicle dice 14mm, and Artillery 16mm.)
PS The yellow w/red & rampant sounds teriffic

I'm in, could you put me down for twenty please.
Also I think that it would be a good idea to take the opportunity to order in a fair amount of surplus stock. The club can sell them to whoever fancies them throughout the year.
The lion rampant would be cool but if you fancied something more specific to Stirling had you considered a wolf design? There are various carvings and statues to wolves around Stirling as it very much forms part of the lore of the town:
(Cribbed from elsewhere: )
In the 9th century the Danes were trying to invade Scotland, and Stirling; already invaded by English Northumbrians, aimed to protect the city by use of sentries. However, one fell asleep just as the Danes were furtively preparing to attack.
"The besieging foe was at hand, and was about to take the city, when a wolf, alarmed at the noise and din of the advancing hordes, crept for safety to the crag on which the sleeping soldier lay. But still he found no safety. He growled in terror. It was his wild cry that saved the city. It awoke the sleeping sentinel, who, seeing the position of matters, raised the alarm. Yet he was not too late. The citizens arose, buckled on their armour, and drove the Danes from the district ; thus the wolf saved the city".
Stirling welcomed the new millennium recently with the burning of a giant effigy of a wolf, which does not seem very respectful....

Not very recogniseable though, I wouldn't think. The Rampant Lion was the Scottish King's personal heraldry as you'll see on the Robert Bruce statue at Bannockburn, and is well recognised. Generally it is most closely associated with the Wars of Independence and hence with Stirling. Not quite so generic as the Cross of St Andrews but still recogniseably Scottish. Also it provides strong contrasting colours that are also a bit more unusual - white and red or blue or black are the most common combinations I've seen elsewhere.
Anyone else object or feel strongly about it? I was going to order them this week.
Considering the response I thought we could order ... maybe 500? We would need probably 300-350 immediately and the rest the club could keep and sell as people wanted them. We could order more but the club would then have to outlay the extra and may not get it back for a few years.
Also, I thought if we got them in time we might give one out with each tournament campaign pack as a bit of a memento.

Not very recogniseable though, Though a lion rampant says Scotland to most people, and as such is less individually Stirling than for example a wolf emblem. A lion Rampant says Scotland to me rather than Stirling, and we are Stirling Wargamers not Scotland Wargamers. I'll not die in a ditch over it but if they are going to become SW club dice I'd rather we all had a chance to chat about designs before firing off an order.

The MacRobert centre uses quite a cool wolf logo. Or the GW Space Wolves logos work well for one in profile.

The thing I would say against the wolf logo is that it is not instantly recogniseable as either from Stirling or even Scotland. We may be the first club in Scotland to do their own dice, so I would think we should nab one of the most recogniseable Scottish emblems - either the St Andrews Cross or the Rampant Lion. When I think of the St Andrews Cross I think of the Scottish Rugby team and if I saw it as an outsider I would automatically assume Glasgow or Edinburgh. Stirling had its' period of national significance from about 1400-1600, and the Rampant Lion is much more associated with that period. I think you probably see the Rampant Lion around Stirling more than any other Scottish city. Besides, the yellow shield with red margin is incorporated into our Stirling Wargamers logo. The lion itself is replaced by the "w" of wargamers so is already pretty explicit in the club emblem. See: warhammer.org.uk/PhP/viewtopic.php?t=22552The wolf head on the other hand could come from anywhere. That episode you quote there, Paul, is (as it says) from the ninth century. It's pre-"Scottish" and well before Stirling's peak of importance. If you were playing a game in England or Europe with those dice I doubt anyone would even guess you were from Scotland, and if you were playing in Scotland I don't think anyone would associate them with Stirling. So if not the rampant lion I'd rather go with Cross of St Andrews than something more obscure. Anyway, club decision; how do we want to go about it? Everyone respond: 1/ St Andrews Cross 2/ Lion Rampant 3/ Wolf head - (colours and design would need to be agreed on too) Or do you want to start with a thread asking for suggested designs? That sounds too drawn out to me, but this is a democracy... Whatever we do, let's not let this get too complicated. They're just dice, they won't actually say "Stirling Wargamers" or "SW" on them, and if we get bogged down in a prolonged debate over this it will be more tedious than it's worth.

I've got to say, its a hard one.. we want to look like we are stirling wargamers, not just scotland in general. the lion rampant and st andrews cross just say scotland in general to me, yet the wolf is quite obscure.. when i think of stirling the only other thing i can think of is the wallace monument.. not the best symbol to go on a dice. I think my vote will go to the wolf, partly because i think the wolf is a cool looking animal

I guess the yellow shield and margin is in our logo...
Like I say - I'll not die in a ditch over it. If people fancy the lion rampant I could be persuaded.
